Frequently asked questions
It all began with a simple idea fueled by a deep passion for transforming outdoor spaces and solving real and common issues. As Roundhouse Curbs, a local business in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every detail of your decorative concrete curbing project. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. Here are some of the most common questions we receive.
Are these individual pavers?
No. curbing is continuous concrete that is mixed, placed, and finished on site. Our mix design has an incredibly strong compressive strength (can take a beating from the weight of mowers and equipment, and a very impressive tensile strength (will not displace) due to the fibers and stainless steel cable we add to every inch of the curb.
What's the main reason people choose your concrete curbing over other options they might be considering?
Roundhouse Curbs' decorative concrete curbing is the only option that truly checks all the boxes. Unlike steel edging which rusts, lifts after freeze-thaw cycles, and can be hazardous to pets, or plastic edging that breaks and lifts, our curbing prevents these issues. Pavers constantly move and displace, becoming a hazard for your mower. Natural edging is a maintenance nightmare. Our curbing doesn't rust, move, or break. It effectively prevents weed and grass transfer, solves water drainage and erosion issues, and significantly reduces the need for weed eating, making yard maintenance much easier. Every job is specific to your property and our team will expertly design each and every curb.
Are there any common misunderstandings or worries people have about concrete curbing that you often have to explain?
A common misunderstanding is that it's too expensive. In reality, steel or aluminum edging is often comparable in price to our simple or standard curbing, and professional paver installations can be more costly. Another worry is that people often think curbing consists of individual blocks. However, our curbing is continuous concrete, providing superior strength and stability. Ours also features stainless steel cable reinforcement throughout, adding unparalleled durability.
Will it crack?
The answer is both yes and no. Our curbing will not crack anywhere that it isn't supposed to. We take every possible precaution to ensure the quality of our curbs as well as the longevity. It starts with our base. We level and pack a drainable sub-base under all of our curbs giving it a sturdy and drainable base to rest for years to come. Additionally, we put high quality fiber glass mesh in every batch to completely eliminate hairline cracks caused from shrinking, then we run stainless steel cable through the entirety of the curb to prevent long term cracks and displacement. Then finally, the control joints are flawlessly layed out in the curb. Control joints do precisely what it sounds like. They are put in to control any potential future cracks. These would do absolutely nothing to the functionality or aesthetic of the curb. Just as you see on every sidewalk and driveway, control joints are a necessity with any concrete. With these 3 components, your concrete curbing will perform exactly how it is intended, which is to provide long lasting beauty, durability, and practicality.
